The More Crap You Go Through The Better You Get at Going Through Crap | 757
One of the most important success qualities in entrepreneurship is resilience. The more crap you go through, the better you get at going through crap. If you want to discover the three reasons why welcoming adversity is to your advantage, you've got to join me on this edition of The Inside BS Show.
Hey now, I'm Dave Lorenzo. I'm the Godfather of Growth. And today's show is about you battling adversity.
That's right. It's about you and winning through adversity. Now, reason number one why you need to embrace adversity as an entrepreneur is because adversity sucks in the moment, but it builds outstanding mental toughness.
Here's the thing. If you become great at handling crisises or crises, you will never fear a crisis. You will know that you can handle anything that is thrown in your path.
There is an expression that Dan Sullivan from Strategic Coach uses all the time. And he says, if you've got a problem that writing a check can solve, you don't have a problem. I love that.
And the reason I love that is because you can go out and sell and make more money and you're an entrepreneur. You're good at that. So if you've got a problem that writing a check can solve, you don't have a problem.
The biggest problems you'll have are problems that are really difficult to solve. Problems with your health, problems with relationships, anything you have that's in your path that writing a check can solve, there's a way for you to negotiate that. And dealing with adversity, dealing with crises builds up the mental toughness so that you believe that you can handle that.
The second reason we should embrace adversity as entrepreneurs is that adversity forces strategic thinking. You'll always have contingency plans and option B's ready, and you'll always build redundancy when it's possible to do so. I work from my home and when I'm not on the road, I spend 80% of my time in my home office, in my studio.
I'm recording this now from my home office and my studio. I have battery backups for all my computer equipment. I have a generator for my entire house, which is where my facility is.
And I have two high speed fiber optic internet connections into my office area. I have a failback internet connection in case my primary internet connection goes down and I'm doing a webinar with hundreds of people on it. I've built contingencies into everything that I do.
Why? Because these things have happened to me in the past. And I'm prepared for when the power goes out. I'm prepared for when the internet goes down.
I'm prepared for the things that could potentially happen. If going through COVID taught us anything, it taught us that we should be prepared for when the unexpected occurs. And that's what adversity teaches us.
The third reason we should embrace adversity as entrepreneurs is that adversity helps you appreciate the good times. We get better by comparison. So if you don't know how bad things can get, you really don't know how good you have it.
One of the little secrets, and it's not really a secret, to many successful entrepreneurs is that they've had a bankruptcy in their past. Why is this a success secret? Well, there are many reasons why people who've gone through a bankruptcy experience are successful. Not the least of those reasons is the fact that they've planned for contingencies, they've prepared for every potential outcome, and they've adjusted their programs, their plans, so that they never have to experience that again.
Entrepreneurs are known as risk takers. Entrepreneurs are also known as people who have the ability to bounce back from massive failure. We have the ability to see what's over the horizon and to push through anything that could potentially be in our path.
So when times are tough for you in your business life, or when times are tough for you in your personal life, that's hard. And I know it can be frustrating, but you cannot give up. You must push through.
You must persevere because strength will come from getting through this moment in time. Your ability to push through this situation, the tough situation that you're going through, is what will make you unstoppable. It will make you unstoppable in the future.
Your ability to handle crap increases your ability to handle crap in the future. If you're listening to this, you are probably the strong person in your family who everyone turns to in a crisis. That's what makes you great as an entrepreneur.
That's what makes you successful in business. And that's what will make you successful in life. Keep going through the crap because you will be stronger as a result.
