Three Qualities of a Successful Leader | 770

What are the three qualities you need to have to be a successful business leader? I'm gonna share that and so much more with you today on this edition of the Inside B.S. Show. Hey now, it's Dave Lorenzo, I'm the Godfather of Growth and today I am live on site in Las Vegas, Nevada on the convention floor of the Aria Hotel and Casino and we are in the last day of our weekend trip so I am getting ready to head home but before I do, I wanted to just check in with you and share with you the three qualities necessary for you to be an effective and successful business leader. These qualities are universal and they're as applicable if not more applicable today than ever before.

You see, I don't know if you've been keeping up with the news but in the business community today, there's kind of a source of chaos right now that is, well, the source of chaos is emanating from Washington, D.C. We are in a state of flux economically because of candidly policies that have been enacted by the U.S. government. Now, without being political, without getting into any of the politics of it, it doesn't matter if you're a manufacturer, a wholesaler, a distributor, a seller of goods or services if you're in B2B or the B2C space, everybody is pretty much frozen right now and they're frozen because they don't know what tomorrow will hold and this is where you, as a business leader, come in. You need to be a source for clarity, for calm and for joy, not only for your people, the people who work with you and for you in your company, but also for your clients and for your peers in the business community as a whole.

You see, as a leader, you have an overall responsibility to guide everyone in your orbit, everyone in your world and this responsibility comes with some rewards and the rewards are that people will be drawn to you like a magnet because it's human nature. People just want to be led. People are dying to be told where to go, what to do and how they can be more helpful, more effective, more efficient and make more money and live a better life.

They just want guidance and support and the business community has always been a source for guidance and support and it's always been looked to as a source for guidance and support. So the first quality that you need to possess as a successful business leader is clarity. So it starts with your own personal clarity.

You have to be completely clear on what your personal goals are and you have to conform your behavior so that it is in alignment, it is congruent with achieving those goals. My process is to focus on three things and only three things each day that will get me closer to achieving my goals. So one of my goals is to build multiple recurring revenue streams in my business so that I know with great predictability, reliability and certainty what my revenue is going to be day after day, month after month and if I'm efficient and effective in servicing the clients that are the source of that revenue, I can predict what my profitability will be.

So if that's one of my goals, I need to take steps and measures every day in order to achieve those goals. That's part of the clarity of focus. So for me, that looks like connecting with the sales team, connecting with the marketing team, making sure they're in complete and total alignment, making sure that leads are coming in the door and making sure that there are processes and systems in place to convert those suspects into prospects and then the prospects into clients.

I'm also gonna look at key performance indicators to make sure all of that is happening. So the clarity of purpose drives my behavior on a day-to-day basis. When I talk to the people who work with me and the people who work for me, I'm asking questions that will ensure that they understand what their purpose is and they have clarity of purpose in their day-to-day business activities.

Now you can apply this to your personal life as well and it's highly effective and highly efficient in your personal life, but having that clarity of focus, asking yourself, am I completely clear in what I need to do today in order to get closer to achieving my goals is step one in being an effective leader. Now step two in being a successful and effective leader is being a source of calm, not only for the people who are your clients, it's also for the people who are your employees, the people who work with you, the people who are your strategic alliance partners and for your family and your friends. Good leaders always project an air of calm confidence about them.

You can use these two Cs together, that calm confidence that just is magnetic to folks. It draws people to you. If you are the person who says, stay with me, everything's going to be all right, I'm going to help you get through this, that is absolutely magnetic and it makes you one of the people that everyone always wants to be around.

You don't have to have solutions to problems to project this calm confidence, but you do have to say that you will be the person who is by their side while they're going through the toughest times in their business, the toughest times in their life. Being with them, being the person who they can count on is you as a source of calm confidence. The third element of successful leadership is surprising to many people and that's joy.

Being a source of happiness, of joy for people is a huge element of leadership. You can have clarity of purpose and you can be a source of calm confidence, but people will only want to be around you in a crisis. If you are a source of joy for people, if you enable them to be happy, if you put a smile on their face, if you make them laugh, that is incredibly powerful and magnetic and it will make people want to be near you, make people want to be with you and make people want to be around you.

If someone has a choice between sitting on a couch and eating chips or coming to see you and spending an hour and a half with you just laughing and talking and they choose to sit on the couch and eat chips, that tells you that you are not a source of joy. You have to be the person that makes people's lives better, even if it's just a little bit better and they have to perceive you as such and if you are, if you do, if you live up to that promise and commitment, you will be a leader who people want to follow. Clarity, calm confidence and joy, those are the three elements of really good leadership.

If you want to be a successful leader, you will possess those three qualities and you will work on perfecting those qualities every day. I'm Dave Lorenzo, this is the Inside BS Show.
